After a Painting by J M W Turner

the sun of venice
going out to sea
celestial waters marble
forms forth from the oil
vain green reflection
where the stone hits the sky
balances coloured
sail piercing below
and above from mists
deep shapes a magical
labarynth of dreams
that is the cobalt lagoon
cold in her muddy dominion
as if birthed forth from
the child of venus
a daughter of glory
wet and fast held
to the breath of life
